Carnival's Programme

4 jours | 3 nuits

Carnival and Entrudo are part of Portugal's popular traditions and are deeply rooted in the country's culture and history. These celebrations are marked by revelry and rituals that date back to ancient times and mix Christian and pagan influences.
This year we propose a Carnival experience that shares the local history and traditions, a journey through some of the regions of Portugal where Entrudo is most popular, the lower Alentejo and the beira baixa, passing through the Brazilian-influenced Carnival revelry celebrated in Loulé and Madeira.

The Baixo Alentejo Carnival is marked by a mix of popular traditions, local creativity and contemporary inspirations. This celebration reflects the region's cultural identity with authenticity and connection to the land, with elements such as Cante Alentejano, local gastronomy and community spirit, valuing simplicity and sharing.

Arrival at Herdade da Malhadinha Nova - Traditional welcome appetisers in the Reception/Tavern - Our Chef's first treats accompanied by Malhadinha wines.

Viola Campaniça concert - Pedro Mestre, one of the greatest ambassadors of the viola campaniça in Portugal and a forerunner of this ancient art, will present an exclusive moment with the viola campaniça and Alentejo singing in our barrel cellar.

Traditional Dinner at the Malhadinha Restaurant - Enjoy dishes inspired by Alentejo recipes using the indigenous products produced on the estate.

On the second day of this experience, we recreate the traditions of Portugal's oldest carnival, the Torres Vedras Carnival and the Podence Carnival, which both focus on humour, irreverence, folklore and mysticism.

08h30 - 11h00 - Breakfast - Enjoy our breakfast with organic and biological products from the estate, overlooking the infinity pools on the Alentejo plain.

Visit to the estate and winery, followed by a wine tasting accompanied by our wine tourism team while the children have fun visiting the animals and gardens, where they will learn about growing vegetables and fruit and interact with the estate's various animals.

Country picnic in the vineyards - A light lunch in contact with nature, prepared by our cookery team, using indigenous and seasonal produce from Malhadinha's organic gardens.

Caretos Mask Workshop - Learn how to make the traditional masks of Podence, which celebrates Carnival in Trás-os-Montes, where the caretos, masked men in colourful costumes and rattles, run through the streets of this Trás-os-Montes village in celebration of fertility rituals.

Themed dinner at Restaurante da Malhadinha, Michelin Green Star - Our kitchen team presents a menu inspired by the roots of the Torres Vedras and Podence regions. Our sommelier will present a special pairing for each dish inspired by Portugal's emblematic indigenous grape varieties.

We recreate the Carnival experiences of Loulé and Madeira and all the traditions of these different regions, but which are inspired by the Brazilian Carnival. Both recreate the influence of the Brazilian Carnival.

Lunch inspired by Brazilian cuisine, with the traditional feijoada, in a fusion of flavours and traditions. In an informal and relaxed atmosphere, savour the most emblematic Brazilian dishes.

Samba Workshop - A practical approach to steps and movements that follow the rhythm of the music and the typical choreographies of Carnival parades inspired by the typical samba schools.

Carnival Dinner at Restaurante da Malhadinha, Michelin Green Star - The gastronomic traditions of the Algarve and Madeira serve as the motto for this themed dinner.

After dinner, we challenge you to a samba parade in our Taberna, accompanied by a selection of Cocktails - a very lively experience.
