The planting of the olive grove and the production of olive oil date back to the pre-Roman era in the Iberian Peninsula. Used for medicinal and food purposes, olives and olive oil are two of the trademark agricultural products and traditions of the Alentejo.
Herdade da Malhadinha Nova’s olive grove dates from the 1940s. It exists side-by-side with a high-tech winery – a traditional, centuries-old activity maintained alive through the marrying of modern technology.
Based on the Galega olive, one of the main traditional Alentejo varieties, the harvest is done by hand and processed on the same day.
The olive oil is extremely pure and has a unique gourmet quality, with a fruitiness that ranges in flavor between green apple, almonds and dried fruit.
